Core - We've Got You Covered
This training module was developed jointly by Maternal and Child Health Access and Neighborhood Legal Services. The title conveys our message -- there is some program or service to assist almost everyone in need. Another critical concept is that everyone in the household is assisted, regardless of who seeks assistance. The training introduces the idea of linkage between an individual and a program to: 1) help ensure accurate screening for programs, and, 2) provide resources and advocacy steps to enable the outreach worker to assist his/her clients. Since every available health program is covered in the Core curriculum, it cannot be expected that full comprehension will take place, but exercises help cement the knowledge of programs and resources that exist.
This is one of the two trainings that assistors countywide may take to be certified to enroll children in the Los Angeles County My Health LA
Follow Up and Trouble Shooting
This module compliments the initial Core & CHAMP Training (offered by the National Health Foundation) and will bring back participants after they have had the opportunity to work with families and individuals seeking health care. It reinforces the original training and provides tools for various examples of problems applying for, maintaining or using health care, examples provided by the participants themselves. Participants cement their knowledge of how to navigate the many healthcare programs should a family be denied enrollment or services. The session also covers annual and other program review processes. Designed for follow-up within one to two months of a Core training.
Review and New Initiatives
Designed for current Certified Application Assistors or for individuals who have previously been trained in our Core Training .This training focuses on review of key program issues and specific changes that have taken place within the last two years.
Utilization and Retention
This training is designed for agencies that provide ongoing benefit assistance to families. To maximize successful enrollment and uninterrupted coverage, the training specifically covers program reporting requirements and includes the forms for all health programs covered in the Core training module, as well as suggestions outside of required reporting. It covers how and whether enrollees use health care services, emphasizing various managed care systems, but also including fee-for-service and Share of Cost Medi-Cal. The training will also cover newborn enrollment into Medi-Cal and the Medi-Ca Access Progam and how to advocate for a client who has lost or is in danger of losing his/her benefits.
Newborn Enrollment
This module will provide the latest information and forms for covering infants who are born into or otherwise eligible for Medi-Cal, and the Medi-Cal Access Program, programs. It will also provide the tools to advocate for a client.
Specialized Trainings
MCHA will design a training for your needs and your population base. Examples of trainings we have created include: Healthcare for Teens and Healthcare for Homeless People.
