Maternal
and
Child
Health
Access’
Breastfeeding
Support
Group
was
begun
in
July
2001.
It
is
conducted
in
Spanish
and
held
bi-weekly
from
9
to
10
a.m.
at
our
offices
downtown
and
is
open
to
any
pregnant
or
postpartum
woman
interested
in
breastfeeding.
Childcare
and
healthy
snacks
are
provided
and
the
range
of
topics
presented
and
discussed
by
the
women
include:
Breastfeeding
myths,
self-advocacy,
knowing
your
rights
(e.g.,
breastfeeding
in
public,
expressing
milk
at
work),
preparing
to
breastfeed
in
the
hospital,
discussing
breastfeeding
with
your
provider,
latch-on
and
positioning
and
other
basic
breastfeeding
management
skills.
The
group
also
serves
as
peer
support,
as
women
with
more
breastfeeding
experience
help
and
guide
women
with
less
experience.
